Boy, sometimes I live my life like I am God!!! I deceive myself into thinking that I am in control and that I can do a much better job than the Real God can. Isn’t that what the original temptation was all about? The serpent hissed that, “You won’t die. God knows that the moment you eat from that tree, you’ll see what’s really going on. You’ll be just like God, knowing everything, ranging all the way from good to evil.”
Wow.. you mean to tell me that you are not a god? Sure fooled me.
Every time I try to take control I make a mess of things. Thank God that He is in control, He is God and I am not! When I realize I am trying to do things on my own strength and turn to Him I am always flooded with peace.
I too know there is a God and that He is in control, although I dont act like it many times. After my first wife died from complications of Liver and Kidney failure, God got me through the devastation along with my two young daughters in tow. He then led me to find my wife now. I am a blessed man that has been honored to have had a blessed and wonderful first wife and being blessed for having been her husband. God then blessed me with my current wife, who is also blessed and wonderful, strong and faithful, kind tender and loving. She too is a Proverbs wife!!! It is a true honor to be her Husband.
Even though I dont deserve His blessing he has shed his Grace on me!!
Joe, thanks for sharing your powerful story with us here. God certainly is in the grace business!!
“There is a God and I am not”. Nice job whoever wrote that! I love it when people cut away all the ‘crud’ and find the root of the faith. ‘Love God’, ‘love others as yourself’ etc.. The simple stuff; let’s believe it, internalize it and live it!
There is a God and I am not God. Leaving it as I am not reminds me of a poem I read one time about a guy that kills himself because he sees the trees and fish existing so naturally as they were created to exist, but as a human he’s obviously missing something crucial. Crying absurdly “i am not” he shoots himself.
But because of the way it is phrased it makes me think on the fact that if God did not exist I would have to say “I am not.” Or if Christ had not given me access to grace even though God created me I would have to say “I am not” thanks to my sin.
“I am.”
One of the most powerful interactions between God and a human is found in Exodus chapter 3. Moses has been commissioned to lead Israel out of the bondage in Egypt. He is a little intimidated by the task. (He knew clearly that he was NOT God!!!) He asked God to help him answer a big question he was going to encounter when he stepped forward as their leader. He asked, “”Suppose (he defiantly had not committed to the deal yet) I go to the Israelites and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ Then what shall I tell them?” God says, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’ ” What a statement! With those two simple words God proclaims his self-existence, his eternal nature, his unchangeable character, his “one and only” God status. Anything else?
I belief the first time i heard ( there is a God and I not him!) was from the movie Rudy. Rudy wanted in Notre Dame college so bad he kept going to the Priest wanting to know what he was doing wrong and can he help him. And he made this statement. Two things i know, There is a God & I am not him. Another way to put it. You are singing to the choir. You need to be talking to God directly for yourself.
